EDI in Automatic Control Engineering
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) are fundamental to the success and advancement of the Automatic Control Engineering (ACE) field. Our commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment is essential for driving innovation, attracting top talent, and creating a thriving community.
Our Vision
We envision an ACE community where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives and expertise. We strive to create an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity of thought, background, and experience.
Our Goals
- Increase diversity: Promote diversity in our field, particularly increasing the representation of women in control engineering.
- Foster inclusivity: Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members of the ACE community.
- Advance equality: Ensure fair opportunities and treatment for all, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected characteristics.
- Promote awareness: Educate the ACE community about the importance of EDI and its impact on our field.
- Drive change: Implement initiatives and programs to address EDI challenges and promote a more equitable and inclusive ACE community.
Our Actions
- Mentorship and Sponsorship: Establish mentorship and sponsorship programs to support the career development of underrepresented individuals, particularly women.
- Education and Training: Provide EDI training and workshops to raise awareness and promote inclusive practices.
- Data Collection and Analysis: Collect data on diversity and inclusion within the ACE community to identify areas for improvement, focusing on gender representation.
- Collaboration: Partner with other organisations and initiatives to advance EDI in STEM fields, particularly those focused on women in engineering. Work closely with the ACE Network’s GCRCs and Early Career Researcher group to ensure a coordinated approach to EDI.
- Advocacy: Advocate for policies and practices that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the ACE community and the broader academic and industrial landscape.
Getting Involved
We encourage all members of the ACE community to actively participate in our EDI efforts. Whether you are a student, researcher, or industry professional, your contributions are valuable. Join ACE, attend our events, and share your ideas for creating a more inclusive ACE community.
Together, we can build a stronger, more equitable, and innovative ACE field.
