Hector Figueiredo – AI and Data Committee

Hector Figueiredo is a Chartered Engineer and Capability Lead at QinetiQ specialising in Autonomous Systems. He leads research teams in diverse autonomy related technologies being developed both in-house and externally which includes application of Systems Engineering principles to underpin research, development and exploitation. Commendations for his work have been received from DSTL, QinetiQ Innovation award and whilst at BAE Systems: Chairman’s Awards for Innovation, Silver and Bronze awards.
Relevant Technical expertise includes Autonomous systems, Crewed-Uncrewed teaming, Human autonomy teaming, aircraft design and performance.
At QinetiQ he has recently been the Task Lead on a Human Autonomy Teaming for Adaptive Systems project and previously, Solution architect and Technical oversight on the Crewed – Uncrewed Teaming project. A key research area is the evaluation and assurance of Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence (ML/AI) enable autonomy functionality for next generation uncrewed systems. Hector also sits on the Trusted Autonomous Systems Steering Group, several academic Steering Groups developing ML/AI enabled autonomy technologies and is leading the QinetiQ project on assurance of ML/AI systems.

Min Pan – Clean Growth Committee

Min Pan is a Professor and a UKRI Future Leaders Fellow in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. She joined the department as a Lecturer in 2016. She was awarded her PhD from the University of Bath in June 2012 for research into fluid-borne noise control in digital hydraulic systems. After graduation, she continued at Bath as a postdoctoral researcher working on the efficient fluid power control project in the Centre for Power Transmission and Motion Control. She worked as an Assistant Professor in the School of Mechanical Engineering at Zhejiang University in 2014 and 2015. Prof Pan has been awarded prestigious Fellowships from the Royal Academy of Engineering (2019-2021), The Leverhulme Trust (2020-2022) and the UKRI.
An aerospace engineer by training, after leaving the industry, Giuliano’s interests grew in the broad area of control theory and complex systems. His current research aims at understanding complex dynamics at the interface between social and technical systems. These include the use of public services such as transportation or water systems, how these impact the demographic and the resilience of both the infrastructure and the community they serve.

Mien Van – ECR Group Co-Lead

Mien Van is a Senior Lecturer at Queen’s University Belfast with longstanding experience in Robotics and Intelligent Control.  Dr. Van has been PIs and Co-Is of many projects (~£1.5M in total) funded by the EPSRC, NERC, Royal Society, ONR Global, Innovate UK and Dstl/MOD to advance control theory, control engineering, and robotics technologies. He has published over 80 journal (first authors of over 40 journal papers) and conference articles, receiving citations over 3300 and a h-index of 31. He received 3 best paper awards.
