The ACE Network Mentor Scheme is a new initiative led by our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Group, which is committed to building a more inclusive and diverse Automatic Control Engineering (ACE) community.

We believe that diversity is essential for innovation, progress, and long-term success in our field. Our EDI group works to increase representation—particularly of women and other underrepresented groups—foster inclusive environments, and ensure fair opportunities for all. This mentorship scheme is one of the key ways we aim to support individuals in their careers and contribute to a stronger, more equitable ACE community.

Umberto Montanaro – AI and Data Committee

Dr. Umberto Montanaro is a Senior Lecturer in Control Engineering and Autonomous Systems at the University of Surrey. He received his M.Sc. degree in Computer Science Engineering in 2005, and his Ph.D. degrees in Control Engineering and Mechanical Engineering in 2009 and 2016, respectively, from the University of Naples Federico II,  Italy.

Lucia Marucci Co- Chair Ageing Society

Lucia Marucci is a Professor of Systems and Engineering Biology at the University of Bristol. After completing her studies in Mathematics, Lucia started a PhD in Automatic Engineering, focused on the design of synthetic gene network (University of Naples, Italy, PhD award 2010). She then moved to the Centre for Genomic Regulation (Barcelona, Spain) where she was awarded an EMBO Long term fellowship to study gene expression dynamics in pluripotent stem cells.
